Narayana Subramaniam hails from a legendary family steeped in music. He started his training in violin at the age of six, from his father Dr. L. Subramaniam. He has been a student of Karnatic vocal since the age of ten. Narayana has also learnt piano. He is deeply interested in Hindustani light music and sings ghazals.
He was part of a special performance at the Gateway of India in 2003, featuring the violin greats Dr. L. Subramaniam and Jean Luc Ponty. He also sang at the 50th Birthday celebrations of Spiritual Leader Mata Amritananda Mayi, where there were representatives from all 191 U.N. member countries and thousands of devotees from around the globe. He has also performed for Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Saraswati in Mysore, and for the 70th Birthday of Swami Shantanand Saraswathi in Malaysia. Narayana also performed at a special open-air millennium concert on New Year’s Eve 1999, where over two hundred thousand people were present. In addition to being
a first year medical student and a singer, Narayana is also a poet.
He is currently planning to release his first collection of poetry
and is working on a Hindi album under the guidance of his mother Kavita
Krishnamurti Subramaniam.
