Freedom Symphony - World Premiere (For Solo Voice, Orchestra and Choir)
Featuring Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam

This is a composition based on a unique concept of taking four patriotic themes from the four corners of India and weaving them into a powerful symphonic poem. There are four short lyric extracts in four different Indian languages (Sanskrit, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil). The Hindi text was a favourite of Mahatma Gandhi. The Bengali text was written by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The Sanskrit text is extracted from a very powerful and popular song for freedom. The Tamil text was written by the Legendary Tamil Poet Subramanya Bharathiar.

This composition weaves through different Indian ragas and melodic structures in different rhythmic cycles. There are also strong orchestral trade offs. There are vigorous string passages and powerful triumphant passages in the horn, symbolising the fight for freedom. There are also meditative passages for the voice in alaap (free improvisational) style.

In addition to the orchestra, the composition is also written for solo voice, choir and Indian percussion.

The Freedom Symphony is a very strong melodic and heroic symphonic composition which for the first time uses text from four different Indian languages and will be sung with words.
